MANAGEMENT & RESTORATION

Management & Restoration

The alarming rate at which the world’s ecosystems are declining has spurred national and global organisations to act. To prevent, halt and reverse the ongoing decimation of the natural habitats on which we all depend for survival, the United Nations has declared the period 2021-2030 as the UN Decade for Ecosystem Restoration. As a result of the commitment made in the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030, the Nature Restoration Law has been adopted, which aims to halt the loss of biodiversity in Europe by fundamentally changing the way we use our land, rivers and seas. At the same time, the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030 commits to effective management of all protected areas by 2030.

Both management and nature restoration deal with land and different land users, facing similar challenges before and during their implementation.

In this section “Management & Restoration” we explore some key topics (e.g. stakeholder involvement, conservation grazing, tourism and recreation, hunting, invasive species and climate change) and selected ecosystems; dive into ecosystem services and nature benefits; consider improving connectivity between the sites and the Nature-based Solutions
